Creative Spotlight: Curl Up N Dye

When I first sat down in the salon chair of Hailey Moya, over a year ago, one thing became immediately clear to me. Her business isn't just about hair. It's about creating a space where people can show up exactly as they are.

Like many small business owners, Hailey's journey wasn't a straight path to success. In fact, it began with a setback that could have easily convinced her to walk away from the beauty industry altogether. After months of working toward her cosmetology license, she was unexpectedly let go from her first salon position. It was a moment that left her questioning herself, her future, and whether she belonged in the industry she loved.

Instead of letting that experience define her, she carried it with her.

While searching for something more fulfilling, she found herself returning to the beauty industry with a new perspective and a determination to create something that truly reflected who she was. That vision eventually became CurlUpNDye, a salon built on authenticity, self-expression, and community.

Today, at just 24 years old, Hailey has built something many people twice her age are still working toward. What started as a one-woman operation has grown into a team of artists who share her values and passion for helping others feel comfortable in their own skin.

When I asked her what she hopes every client feels when they leave her chair, her answer wasn't about perfect hair or the latest trends. It was comfort. Peace. Confidence. She wants people to leave feeling good about themselves and confident in the choices they've made. As our conversation continued, we talked about entrepreneurship, mentorship, community, and the challenges of building something from the ground up.
